Question
Question:
Describe the procedure for selecting cyclone oil separators for screw compressors with and without an economizer. What performance should be taken as a basis for selecting a theoretical compressor or a full one with an economizer.
Answer:
In order to select oil separators according to the theoretical displacement for screw compressors using an economizer, it is necessary to increase the basic displacement in proportion to the increase in cooling capacity.
For example:
compressor HSN-7471
operating mode minus 30/plus 45
refrigerant 502A
- without economizer
theoretical volume capacity 250 cbm per hour at 50 Hz
when using the circuit without economizer, we select OM according to the nomogram, FP-OS-40 comes out, while the compressor cooling capacity without economizer is a little more than 50 kW
- with an economizer, the compressor cooling capacity will be more than 80 kW, which exceeds the figure of 50 kW by 1.6 times
therefore, for the selection of oil separators, we use a multiplying factor of 1.6 for the theoretical volumetric productivity, i.e. 250 x 1.6 = 400 cubic meters per hour.
according to the nomogram choose FP-OS-80

This approach only works for systems with overheating. When using systems with an economizer, when the compressor capacity changes, the economizer capacity must also be adjusted to operate with a sufficient discharge temperature (oil separation is difficult at low discharge temperatures).
